The 2nd annual Anniversary Cup for the U18's
On Sunday 11th December we held the 2nd annual Anniversary Cup for the U18's, with 18 players taking part. We used the school of excellence bowls skills format. The juniors were split into "seniors" and "juniors" (less experienced). On one rink was jack rolling to a certain length scoring 3 points if within 0.5 metres 2 points within a metre & 1 point if within 1.5 metres. Then they had to hit a target ramp and scored 2 points with every bowl if successful. Next was bowling to an off set jack with each players nearest bowl being "marked" on the green. At the end the nearest junior & senior scored 5 points. The next rink was bowling to the centre line. Within 0.5 metre either side of the centre line scored 3 points, within 1 metre either side scored 2 points & within 1.5 metres scored 1 point. The final exercise was for each player to increase weight of each bowl. They scored 1 point if they passed the previous bowl.
The runner up in the less experienced with 21 points was Chris Archer & the winner with 43 points was Morgan Beal. Runner up in the experienced group with a total score of 40 was Matthew Bell, with the winner by 1 shot on 41 was Joseph Mann. The winner of this years Trophy was Morgan by 2 points a great acheivement as he has only been coming to the juniors for a few weeks!!
I thanked all the players for taking part & helpers/coaches for their support.

Juniors open Ovarian Cancer Week with a Charity Fun Day
On Sunday 20th Scarborough Indoor Bowls Centre started a week of fund raising for Ovarian Cancer. The Juniors kicked off the day with 21 entering a "fun" competition. Each player wore something "funny" and paid £1 to play. They played different ends over 7 rinks with 3 players on each rink. They moved along to another rink after completing each task. The players were in two sections experienced & less experienced. In all the exercises (except rink seven) if one player had the best scoring bowls they could score a maximum six points. Rink one was the nearest bowl to the jack scored 3 points, 2nd bowl 2 points & 3rd bowl 1 point. Any bowls short of the jack did not count even if they were closer to the jack!! Rink two was the nearest 2 bowls do not count so third bowl gets 3 points 4th 2 points & 5th 1 point. Rink three the farthest three bowls from the jack counted again furthest 3 points 2nd furthest 2 points & 3rd furthest 1 point. Rink four was all players bowled their bowls & then a marker sent the jack, so the nearest scored 3 pts 2nd bowl 2 pts & 3rd 1 point. Rink five the players had to bowl as close as possible to the ditch without falling in. Again 3, 2,1 points for the best 3 bowls. On Rink six right handed players played with their left hand ( and vice versa).
Nearest three bowls 3,2, & 1 points. Rink seven was a cricket target mat with sections of 2 , 4 & 6 runs. The highest runs scored received 3 points 2nd highest score 2 points & third score gets 1 point. The winner of the less experienced players with 26 points was George Brown.
The winner of the experienced players group was John Hall with 18 points. Both players won chocolates. We managed to raise a fantastic £35.25p in the morning. All the helpers & coaches voted Steven Broadbent ( Fred Flinstone) the best fancy dress & he was presented with some sweets.
